Updated: The Band Room goes in to liquidation
Future of Glasgow-based dealership unknown
The Band Room, a large dealer of piping and drumming merchandise, has gone in to liquidation. The company had its assets seized on August 15 at the conclusion of a week of festivities in the Glasgow area.
Sources, who wish to remain anonymous, have said that the company shut down after it built a debt of more than £200,000, although this amount has not been verified. All of The Band Room’s assets were reportedly seized on August 15 for auction.
Started by the famous drummer Joe Noble in the early 1990s, The Band Room gained business stature over the last 10 years. Noble sold the company to Brian and Paul McComish in November 2003. Noble is reportedly still owed a sizable amount of money from the purchase.
The Band Room purchased R.G. Hardie & Co. in May 2004, and also acquired rights to the Peter Henderson name. It is not known if the R.G. Hardie side of The Band Room’s business will be impacted by the alleged financial situation.
Both The Band Room and R.G. Hardie premises in Glasgow were reportedly closed on August 18.
The Band Room has had a high presence in marketing endeavours. Most recently sponsoring the August 9 Todd Bar Drumming Recital at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. It was also involved in sponsorship of an August 14 invitational solo piping event at the National Piping Centre.
Inquiries to principals of The Band Room have not as yet been answered, but will be added to the story as more information becomes available.
