April 15 event at Denison Armoury

The Toronto Indoor Games, once one of the highlights of the Ontario season, is to start again after a hiatus of many years, with the event scheduled to take place on April 15 at Denison Armoury in the north Toronto suburb of Downsview.

A full slate of professional and amateur solo events will be held, and Quartet, Drummers’ Fanfare and a “Ceilidh Contest” will also be introduced.

“The Toronto Indoor was for many years the start to the Ontario season,” says Gary Moore, president of the Toronto Branch of the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario. “It was a way to dust off the cobwebs, try new tunes, new arrangements, and catch up with old friends.”

Moore has made resurrecting the event as a priority in his first year as President of the PPBSO’s Toronto Branch.

DeBoth steps down as Niagara Police P-M

Paul DeBoth has decided to step down as Pipe-Major of the Grade 2 Niagara Regional Police Pipe Band after 15 months in the post. Long-time band-member Davey Goodall is the new pipe-major.

“I have decided to resign as pipe-major of the band after lengthy consideration as to what was best for both the band and myself,” DeBoth says. “The band is in excellent shape and will be looked after by Davey Goodall. I consider myself fortunate to claim the Niagara Band as family, and especially fortunate to have played with a lead-tip of Graham Kirkwood’s calibre.”
