Hiking Half Dome is no walk in the park so to speak. It’s 8.5 miles one way, with 4,8000 ft. of elevation gain. There’s also the heat which easily reaches 90 degrees in the summer. And the final walk up the cables makes for an all together strenuous climb. Last thing you want to do at the top is play the bagpipes. But, never underestimate the love a Scottish man feels for his bagpipes. Here’s a video of David Quinn playing ‘Scotland the Brave’ and ‘Highland Cathedral’ at the top of Half Dome. John Muir, the most famous Scot I know after William Wallace and Sean Connery, would be proud. Via Annieander.

CelticPipes is an easy-to-use music notation software application that allows you to create musical scores for the following traditional ‘Celtic’ musical (and percussion) instruments:

CelticPipes has been designed from the outset to be easy to use. It is also very ‘open’, allowing a variety of commonly used file formats to be imported and exported. For example, import formats are: ABC, BMW, BWW and PIO (PiobMaster, for the Highland Bagpipe - currently Windows only )

With the use of the Transposition tool to change keys, even suitable Fiddle tunes in ABC may be imported and transposed for other instruments!

Two ‘giants’ of the Irish music scene will feature in what could prove to be the Éigse Carlow Arts Festival’s most exciting musical programme yet.

One of those gargantuan figures is the irrepressible Dublin singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey and the other is a man who has cemented his place in the pantheon of traditional Irish musicians over four hugely successful decades in the business.

Renowned uillean piper Liam O’Flynn has peddled his wares on the national and international scene since the 60s and the host of international names he has played and collaborated with pay testament to his legacy.
