The Firefighters Memorial Tartan and the Law Enforcement Officers
Memorial Tartan are two new tartans registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority.
Both were created to honor thosewho lost their lives in the line of duty and give a special “nod” to our heros on 9/11. 15% of every sale will be donated to a charity associated with the tartan (The Leary Foundation for the firefighters and Concerns of Police Survivors for the Law Enforcement tartan).

Northwest Junior Pipe Band from Shoreline, WA (near Seattle) is the only novice-juvenile or juvenile pipe band from the United States making the trip to Scotland in 2008. 33 bands in both grades are competing this year, but just NWJPB from the US, competing novice-juvenile.
The band is the first youth band from Washington State to ever compete in the World Pipe Band Championships, and only the 2nd youth band from the state to travel to Scotland. The last band was the Seattle Scottish Boys Pipe Band in 1969. They went to the Scottish Championships and won, beating the Juvenile World Champions.
We are a launching a brand new bagpipe music and video website. This site will a social networking site for pipers, drummers, pipe bands and Celtic musicians.
CLASP, Competition League for Amateur Solo Pipers will run the annual ‘World Solo Amateur Piping Championships’ on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th of August in the RSAMD (5min walk from National Piping Centre).
Thursday will have light Music and Piobaireachd events for Grade 3 and Grade 2.
Grade 1 will be held on Friday.
The overall winner of the Grade 1 competition on the 15th August will win an all expenses paid trip to New York to compete at the Metro Cup. This trip is kindly sponsored by Eric and Maureen Stein. This competition is for over 18’s only.

One of the biggest obstacles for many learner pipers is making the transition from practice chanter to pipes. This is because of the many new techniques that need to mastered, such as blowing technique, getting used to the bag and drones, building stamina, tuning, learning how to maintain and care for the instrument, and reed manipulation.
This book follows the step-by-step approach of The Highland Bagpipe Tutor Book 1 and each skill is taught in a logical, progressive manner using tried and tested methods gleaned from the combined experience of the teaching staff at The National Piping Centre.
