The Battle of Rullion Green took place on November 28, 1666, during a period in Scottish history known as the Pentland Rising. The battle took place near the Pentland Hills, in Midlothian, Scotland. It was the only significant battle of the Pentland Rising, a brief revolt by Covenanter dissidents against the Scottish government.

James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose (1612 - 21 May 1650), was a Scottish nobleman and soldier, who initially joined the Covenanters in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, but subsequently supported King Charles I as the English Civil War developed. From 1644 to 1650 he fought a Scottish Civil War on behalf of the King.

The Battle of Inverlochy has historical significance in Scotland, and there are actually two notable battles by this name.
